The Artificial Intelligence Strategy developed jointly by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs was adopted on 15 November 2018 as part of the Federal Government’s cabinet meeting on digitalization and artificial intelligence. In twelve different fields of action, the Federal Government is setting the framework for the political design of the further development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) in Germany.
The declared aim of the strategy is to strengthen Germany as a research location for AI. In addition, the application of AI in the economy – especially in small and medium-sized enterprises – is to be further promoted. Around three billion euros are to be invested by 2025, the majority of which will go towards AI research. The focus of the funding measures and the intended development of AI application potential in practically all areas of society should always be on the interests of citizens and tangible social progress.
