As part of the cabinet meeting on digitalization and artificial intelligence, the German government has summarized and adopted measures to shape the digital transformation in an implementation strategy. The focus is on the questions “What are the benefits of digitalization for the individual?” and “How do we maintain and strengthen the values of our free and democratic basic order in the digital age?”.
The strategy is made up of five fields of action derived from the coalition agreement, within which individual measures are formulated:
- Digital competence
- Infrastructure and equipment
- Innovation and digital transformation
- Society in the digital transformation
- Modern state
With a view to intelligent networking, various infrastructures and cross-sectional areas are addressed with specific measures (which can be found in various fields of action of the strategy):
- Health: cross-departmental roadmap “Digital health innovations”; electronic patient file from 2021; connection of all service providers to telematics infrastructure by 2019
- Education: DigitalPakt School; Vocational Training 4.0; Digital Higher Education
- Administration: federal/state portals; portal network
- Smart City & Smart Region: Promotion of smart city model projects; support for projects in rural areas
- Smart data: “Digital technologies/smart data economy” funding priority; research into big data potential for healthcare; development of various data platforms
