As part of the real-world laboratories strategy launched last year, the BMWi has published a “Handbook for Real-World Laboratories” entitled “Freiräume für Innovationen” (Open Spaces for Innovation). With this handbook, the BMWi wants to encourage companies, research and administration to jointly initiate real-world laboratories, through which new technologies and business models can be tested in practice, and to provide assistance and practical examples. The handbook is based on the results of the research project “Potentials and requirements of regulatory experimental spaces (real-world laboratories)”, which was carried out by VDI-Technologiezentrum GmbH together with the law firm Bird & Bird LLP on behalf of the BMWi.
