The digitalization of energy grids is a key prerequisite for the grid integration of renewable energies and electromobility. In this context, the BMWi and the BSI are publishing the standardization strategy for the cross-sectoral digitalization of the energy transition. This roadmap contains the work plan for the conversion of energy grids into smart grids. In addition to a comprehensive protection concept and certification measures, the paper focuses on the rollout approach with market analysis and the gradual introduction of smart meter gateways (SMGW) in accordance with the rollout path of the Act on the Digitization of the Energy Transition. The aim is to network all players in the electricity supply in the smart energy grid of the future.
The basis for the roadmap is the Act on the Digitization of the Energy Transition (GDEW). The GDEW has redefined smart metering in Germany and is based on the four cornerstones of standardization, data protection and data security, investment security and acceptance.
